Have you ever counted the dozens of different kinds and brands of tooth care products at the grocery store or pharmacy? Well, we have not but it seems there must be at least a hundred, maybe. You would think that things would be different, what with all of the different choices and technologies available for proper tooth care. And still, in spite of all of these options, millions of people in the United States still have to deal with chronic dental problems. Truly, it is a booming business for the dental care industry. Actually, we think proper dental care is relatively easy to learn about and to practice. The bottom line, of course, is that it is your smile and your teeth.
Millions of people have teeth that are sensitive to changes in temperature. Drinking hot or cold beverages, or eating hot or cold food can get your attention in an unpleasant way. If you suddenly experience that type of sensitivity, then it is best to see your dentist. It can sometimes be indicative of a cavity forming or a nerve in your teeth starting to swell. However, many folks have chronically sensitive teeth, and in that case it is advisable to use a toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth. You should also try brushing with a brush that has soft bristles. Also, speak with your dentist about this for the best advice.
There are many ways to brush your teeth along with consistent recommendations by dentists, etc. There is more to total oral care than simply brushing your teeth. As gross as it is going to sound, your mouth is probably filled with all kinds of bacteria–some of which is known for causing tooth decay. So, when you brush, be sure to brush your tongue and the roof of your mouth. Don’t over brush or put so much force into it that you accidentally bleed or irritate your mouth. It’s not necessary to give that much overkill. The reason you do this is to get rid of cavity causing bacteria.
Some beneficial bacteria will get destroyed simply as collateral damage but as long as you don’t sterilize your mouth you should be fine.
Everybody knows one of the major causes of cavities is ingesting too much sugar. Of course a poor tooth care program will only make the situation worse. Other considerations that contribute include such things as when you eat sugar. As an example, if you are in the habit of eating sugary hard candies, the constant presence of sugar in your mouth isn’t going to help your case. That kind of situation basically means that your teeth are constantly bathed in the acid that your mouth produces. It is highly recommended that you give your teeth a much-needed break. Dentists say that you can really help yourself by allowing your mouth between two and three hours without sugar.|Let’s talk a little bit about the nation-wide obsession the US has with boston teeth whitening products. First, did you know the natural color of all teeth is slightly yellowish? This is as true as true can be: white is not the natural color of teeth. You have to be very careful here because you might cause some really bad tooth issues. The one main ingredient is peroxide, there could be others out now, and it bleaches your teeth. This process actually damages your tooth enamel. When done often enough it is possible to lose your enamel altogether. Beyond that, you won’t have anything but dental problems.|The very best reason to go to the dentist, other than having something repaired, is to take preventive measures so that you don’t have to just go back to your dentist later on.
Honestly, every six months is a fine enough schedule for seeing your dentist to make sure that everything is as it should be. You’ve no doubt done this before so you’ll know the drill (haha) and already have a good idea about what to expect from a dentist’s visit. All joking aside, this is a much better plan of attack than simply waiting for a tooth to start to hurt because that will only mean one thing. Prevention is always your best bet because it is less painful and a lot more affordable.|Constant consumption of sugared up foods is one of the major drawbacks of living in Western culture. Also, predictably there are many people who routinely eat more sugar than they should. The regular presence of sugary foods in our mouths adds pressure to our teeth and it usually results in far more cavities. So, one thing you can do is try to eat more snacks that do not contain sugar. At least try to work a few in there where you can. Also, after you eat candies or anything with sugar in it, rinse your mouth with water. Chewing sugarless gum is another alternative (or you can do both).|We strongly recommend that teens and young adults avoid using any OTC (over the counter) teeth whiteners. The OTC brands are normally too strong for young adults and you never really know what you are getting with OTC brands. When teeth are clean and healthy, it is normal for them to have a little bit of an off-white color. They can look white at a short distance to someone, but up close you will notice they are not “perfectly” white. The concept of “perfectly white” teeth is one that is being pushed on us by modern marketing. However, if you are determined to make them whiter, then we recommend you see a dentist for a professional evaluation and whitening program.} {There’s quite a lot that you can do to reduce how many cavities you get (as well as dental issues that are more serious).
